FORMAL SCHOOL EDUCATION FOR 60 MAINSTREAMED CHILD LABORERS......bridging a critical social gap

The Project Description

Project Goal: To provide high school education to one hundred rescued working children(to begin with 60 only) with the aim of restoring their childhood, mainstreaming them into normal schools through transitory (bridge) education by providing them emotional security to enable them to pursue academic careers independently and live dignified lives.

Project Area: Qutbullapur mandal Rangareddy district, Andhra Pradesh abutting the city of Hyderabad.

Target Group: sixty (60) mainstreamed poor children belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes and or backward classes and minority communities (and their families) identified and rescued from streets in collaboration with the Departments of Labor, Police and Education Government of Andhra Pradesh.

Outputs (for each of the project activities).
    1. Produced 60 children with SSC certificate ready for college education
    2. Developed a model school that continues to impart high school education to mainstreamed children
    3. Sensitized the target community on the issue of child labor
    4. Both children and families to have taken part in the awareness programs and positively influenced the community.

Project activities planned to address the above problems:

    1. Bringing the target group of 60 mainstreamed children under one roof giving them food, shelter and provide them high school education/vocational training to retrieve them from poverty and thus develop basic abilities, skills and capabilities to live meaningful and self-reliant life. Besides these mundane worldly facilities CHORD intends to provide the all-important love, trusting environment and the necessary emotional security to these unfortunate children. The idea is to make them acquire minimum employable qualification which is ssc/class X
    2. Awareness generation and sensitization on child labor among all the key stakeholders of the society. Awareness campaigns would be launched – citing Project chord aashirwad as testimony against child exploitation – targeting employers, parents of children, the children themselves, and children in general, Government machinery, trade unions, employer’s organizations, teachers, media, professionals, community leaders, women etc.
