ORIGIN
 |
It was in the
year 1997 when we the founding members of CHORD visited a
lime stone quarry for a routine survey in Piduguralla
Village, Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh, where 3000
innocent children were employed in inhuman working
conditions like carrying, and crushing lime stone, a few
very disturbing questions have cropped up in our minds.
IS THERE LIF EBEYOND CHILD LABOUR?
A NORMAL CHILDHOOD, LIKE BEING CARED FOR, LOVED AND
PROTECTED. IS IT ASKING TOO MUCH?
CAN WE SET IN FANCY FREE FROM POVERTY AND MISERY?
In the face of the haunting and daunting specter of child
labour on this planet, it is not easy to ask ourselves
these questions. And even more difficult to find answers.
Child labour is a situation where innocent children are
forced to grow up into grim, joyless adults, by
unrelenting circumstance and unpardonable human folly.
Where children who should be carefree and happy, secure in
the love and affection of the family, are instead
compelled into toil, tears, sweat and bondage.
Bereft of dreams of a better future. plagued by poverty,
stalked by hunger, the crushed spirit in these tiny broken
bodies barely manages to survive terrible exploitation and
an unnatural fate.
Which leads us to ONE key question - Do we dare make a
lasting difference to these desperate lives?
The Birth of Chord
We dared. And the answer that took shape out of our
efforts is CHORD. An organisation which focuses our striving
to give hapless children hope and the power to
dream of a better morrow. Totally committed to ensuring
child welfare, poverty alleviation and initiating
micro rural economic development, the moving spirit behind
CHORD is the multi-thrust ideal, HELP... HARNESS...
HARMONISE
