| CHORD is a relief and development organization (NGO) established with the aim of creating child friendly communities that ensure the emergence of a vibrant and harmonious society. A registered and tax exempt charity, CHORD has been working on the issues of child labour, child rights, livelihood and women’s empowerment in Hyderabad and its peripheral districts for the past ten years. Chord adopts a participatory approach and involves all stakeholders in its mission.
CHORD’s success lies in the fact that the child is not addressed in isolation but the community is targeted as a whole. The organisation’s tenets are based on the educative pedagogy that resolves to make the target area child labour free. In the last ten years CHORD has rescued and educated more than 10000 children and in the process has created the much needed infrastructure by setting up seven Bridge Schools, one English medium Secondary School and a Vocational Training Junior College. Currently 800 community children and vulnerable youth are educated and empowered in these institutions.
Over the years CHORD has evolved a five-fold model to arrest the growing incidence of child labour. The model will provide an end to end solution entailing the child to its logical end which is a livelihood opportunity. The challenge is to break the cyclic life pattern of children working, through innovative programs developed by the organization. The five Pivots of Chord’s Education is Fun, Participation of all members with a focus on group growth as opposed to individual achievements, Social &Emotional development and Positive reinforcement.
CHORD aims to reach out to 9000 children and youth by 2015. CHORD intends to continue its social mission until every child is rescued and empowered and the crusade will relentlessly strive to ensure emergence of a fair and just society that ensures inclusive growth and holistic development of the target communities.
