Children's Day 14th November
Being children and bubbling with enthusiasm 'Aashirwad' children were well prepared for the day to showcase their talents. For the whole week, 'Aashirwad' children were busy in their respective events held for the children's day. Games, both indoor and outdoor were played, cultural items like dancing and singing were also at the gathering. Some of the children of 'Aashirwad' asked the supporters of the event to extend their support for rehabilitation of child labour and eradication of child labour.
Child Rights Day Celebrations
International child rights day was celebrated on 20th November at Andhra Mahila Sabha, Hyderabad. Children from 'Aashirwad' participated in a meeting organised by International Labour Organisation (ILO), UNICEF and Andhra Mahila Sabha. Children of 'Aashirwad' were given an opportunity to speak on their experiences as child laborers besides participating in cultural events.
Since the response from the communities served by CHORD was apparently found to be very encouraging and the response for 'Project Aashirwad' has been very satisfying. All sections of the society comprising of the Government Departments, local citizen groups, like minded donors, NRIs, other NGO's and the beneficiary communities have all extended commendable support and co-operation in making Aashirwad a model Transit School in the twin cities. It was so encouraging that CHORD intends to launch more such transit schools in the vicinity of the twin cities in its quest to eliminate to child labour and to help urban poor.
Slum Education Projects
-
Neighborhood slums of Kukatpally are adopted by CHORD for both formal and non-formal education for
children below the age of 14. These slums also serve as peripheral catchment for referring working children to the rehabilitation center 'Aashirwad'. The staff of Aashirwad make regular visits to these slums to interact with the community and enroll the children into educational programs
Every year 50 tribal children are mainstreamed at our rural project at Venkatayapalem Nuzivedu, Krishna District.
Non-formal education for fishermen children at Vemuladeevi and Kalipatnam at West Godavari District.
